Scot excited to take part in amateur golf’s most prestigious event.

Scottish amateur golfer James Byrne believes his impressive showing in the Johnnie Walker Championship will stand him in good stead for next week’s Walker Cup.

Byrne, one of two Scots in the Great Britain and Ireland 10-man squad who will face the United States in the biennial match at Royal Aberdeen, finished tied 26th at Gleneagles, finishing on three-under-par.

It was the 22-year-old’s first ever European Tour event and he says it was the perfect way to warm up for next week’s showdown against the United States, which is expected to be played in front of crowds of around 6000 people.
